to Know

Straight answers to the questions engineers, procurement teams, and fleet managers ask most about T-bolt hose clamps.

1

What exactly is a T-bolt hose clamp, and how does it work?

A T-bolt hose clamp is a heavy-duty fastening device engineered to secure hoses firmly onto fittings or pipes under high-pressure conditions. Unlike standard worm-gear clamps, the T-bolt design features a solid stainless steel band with rolled edges, a T-shaped carriage bolt, and a heavy nut that delivers uniform 360-degree clamping force across the entire hose circumference. This eliminates the weak spots and uneven pressure points that cause leaks in conventional clamps. Mariflow's T-bolt clamps are precision-formed so the band lies completely flat against the hose surface, creating a leak-proof seal that holds even under thermal cycling, vibration, and surge pressure.

2

Why choose T-bolt clamps over standard worm-gear clamps?

Worm-gear clamps apply pressure unevenly — the screw mechanism creates a pressure peak directly beneath the screw housing, which can cause hose deformation and eventual failure. T-bolt clamps distribute load uniformly around the full perimeter, making them the preferred choice wherever reliability matters: turbo intercooler systems, marine exhaust lines, hydraulic circuits, and industrial pipework. They also offer significantly higher torque capacity, resist loosening from vibration, and are designed for repeated assembly and disassembly without degrading the hose surface. For Mariflow clients in high-demand sectors, the difference in service life and leak-free performance is substantial.

3

What materials are Mariflow T-bolt clamps available in?

Mariflow supplies T-bolt clamps in three primary material grades to suit different environments. 304 stainless steel is our standard workhorse grade — excellent corrosion resistance, suitable for automotive, industrial, and general-purpose use. 316 stainless steel is our marine and chemical-grade option, offering superior resistance to saltwater, chlorides, and aggressive chemicals, making it the specification of choice for offshore, coastal, and process-industry applications. We also supply zinc-plated carbon steel variants for cost-sensitive, lower-exposure applications where budget is a primary consideration. Each grade is available in matching bolt and nut specifications to maintain galvanic compatibility and prevent premature corrosion at connection points.

4

How do I install a T-bolt clamp correctly to achieve a proper seal?

Correct installation begins with positioning the clamp band 6–12mm back from the hose end, ensuring it sits squarely and does not ride over the bead or step on the fitting. Thread the T-bolt through the bridge, engage the nut by hand, and then use a torque wrench to tighten progressively to the manufacturer's specified torque — typically 40–70 inch-pounds depending on clamp size and application. Never impact-gun a T-bolt clamp to full torque in a single step, as this can crack the hose or over-compress the band. After initial installation and a brief operational period, re-check torque as hoses often compress and relax slightly after first pressurisation. Mariflow provides torque specification sheets with all commercial orders.

5

Can Mariflow supply T-bolt clamps for bulk industrial or OEM orders?

Absolutely. Bulk supply is a core part of Mariflow's offering. We work with plant maintenance teams, marine vessel operators, automotive manufacturers, and procurement managers across the region who require consistent specification, reliable lead times, and competitive volume pricing. Our standard lead times for stocked sizes are 2–5 business days, with volume orders dispatched on agreed scheduled releases to suit planned maintenance shutdowns or production schedules. We can supply with full material traceability documentation, mill test certificates, and compliance statements as required by quality management systems. Contact our commercial team to discuss annual volume agreements, consignment stock arrangements, or project-specific supply packages.

6

What sizes and diameter ranges do you stock?

Our standard stocking range covers hose diameters from 25mm (1 inch) through to 203mm (8 inches), with the most common sizes — 2 inch, 2.5 inch, 3 inch, and 4 inch T-bolt clamps — held in depth for fast dispatch. Sizing follows both metric and imperial standards, and we stock adjustable-range bands that accommodate dimensional variation in aftermarket silicone hoses and rubber couplings. For specific OEM projects or bespoke pipeline work requiring non-standard diameters, Mariflow can source or fabricate to specification. When ordering, always measure the outside diameter of the hose at the clamping point — not the hose bore — to select the correct clamp size and ensure a proper seal without over-compression.
